Too early this morning...

Piper runs downstairs, all out of breath, wide eyed and excited,

MOMMY, A YUMPY, A YUMPY!

Me, all drowsy eyed and feigning enthusiasm,

Oh, a puppy?

Piper: NO, MOMMY! A YUMPY, A YUMPY, A YUMPEEEEEE! (exasperated, eyes rolling)

Me: Oh, er, hmmmmm. Something is yummy? There's a yummy treat on TV?

Piper's forehead vein starts bulging and she drags me upstairs to the playroom to show me the YUMPY, THE YUMPY, FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS GOOD AND HOLY, THE YUMPEEEEEE!! EEE OOO EEEEE!!!!

Curious George was on TV. You know, Curious George, the curious little yumpy.

Someone take the camera away from me...

This is what would happen if Robb joined an 80's band, and Ronald McDonald & I had a child.

Fun with Etch-a-sketch

It amazes me how Ruby can look so cute, and so utterly disgusted with me at the same time, while also hailing a cab.

Merci

Thanksgiving was one of those perfect autumn days this year, and we spent it with our family at Heritage Park, here in Calgary. We had our good old fashioned turkey dinners, without having to cook or clean up,(thank you!) then went on rides, and really enjoyed the day.

We've got so much to be grateful for this year.

The Toddler of Babel

***

Robb and I had worried for a year about Piper's lack of speech skills- and after much anguish and worst case scenario imagining, we finally got in touch with a speech analyst to make an appointment. As soon as we did that, at 2 and a half years old, the child opened her mouth, and a steady stream of words has been pouring out ever since. Some of the words are English, some are Spanish, (all that damn Dora actually DID have a purpose,) some are gibberish, and some of the words are a bastardized mix of all 3, with some freaky accents to boot. Out flew the songs, out splashed the sentences, and it has been hilarious and fun to finally hear what has been on her mind. Some words are very clear, and some are very not.

See if you can translate...

1. Heppee, heppee! Ayoomay, ayoomay!
2. Mo Dodo peeeeeee? MO DODO PEEEEEEE??!
3. Doosee, doo peeeee?
4. Woobee ah yeeyee caw too?
5. Hep Dodo puhpuh pee?
6. Mama, yehyow bah ussays?
7. Teekah, teekah, teekah SAAAAAAAAAAH!
8. Wokkah Beebee?
9. Doh ky yeeyee, doh ky.
10. Yam go pawk toooo?
11. Pippee dess aw peee???
12. Papa die caw?!
13. Sooobaaaaah! Sooobaaaah!
14. Reh, geeeee, yeyo, ooooh, Ahzoooo!
15. Mama yaw hay.

If you get more than 2 of these correct, you are either a genius, or completely insane. Good luck!
