The Good Stuff

Things my 14 month old daughter is doing right now, so I don’t forget:

1. She “sings” along with the radio in the car in the sweetest, softest voice I’ve ever heard. It reminds me of someone singing with a walkman on, who does not quite know the words- all choppy and off-key, with a look of concentration. I love it so much, it makes me tear up sometimes.

2. She has her own sense of humour. She laughs at things that I don’t get. She and the monkey from “Ants in your Pants” TV show clearly have a private joke between them that I am not privy to, and boy, is it hilarious. She also tends to lean towards slapstick- toys falling down are extremely funny.

3. She enjoys putting things in her mouth, (of course) taking things out of her mouth, spitting things out of her mouth like a high powered sprinkler, putting her fingers in her hair, ears, nose, other peoples’ hair, ears and noses.

4. My favorite- walking over to me (unsolicited) and giving me a hug and kiss with a “mmm mmm mmm” noise. Absolute heaven. Her kisses are messy and wet, with mouth agape and tongue extended. Clearly, she is one quarter French.

5. Ah, the dancing. Legs apart, knees bouncing, head bobbing. She dances like her daddy- to the beat of her own drum. I hope she always does.

Law & Order

What do you throw a drowning lawyer? His partners… bahahaha!
But seriously folks… I have a lot of respect for good lawyers, and I like mine. We met with him this morning to sign the final paperwork on our new house. And he actually gave us money back. Gulp. Isn’t getting money FROM a lawyer one of the signs of the Apocolypse? It made no sense, and I was afraid…
But then he explained it and all was right with the world. He is a good lawyer- smart, personable, explains things well, does things on time, and does not have gross white crusties in the corners of his mouth or eyes. That’s all I really need in a lawyer.

So now all we have to do is pack up everything we own in the next 2 weeks. We’ve done it 4 times in the last 4 years, so it won’t be difficult. We don’t really accumulate junk- my husband is too neat, and I’m too obsessed with throwing things away. I am the opposite of a pack rat… what is that called? Hmmm… a regular rat?

Lucky!

10 things I love about my husband

1. He married me for better or for worse, and he really meant it
2. He has the best lips, big, soft and kissy
3. He knows how important the little things are
4. He loves to shop with me and for me
5. He puts our family first
6. He thinks I'm pretty
7. I know he's prettier
8. He is very close with his parents and protective of his sisters
9. He values back tickles above all other things
10. He sings silly songs to our daughter

I'm very lucky to have a guy like him as my partner. Honestly, I don't understand how I got him. As Napoleon Dynamite would say... "Lucky!"

My Favorite Things

This was inspired by my friend Jill's Gratitude List.. please hum it to the tune "These are a few of my Favorite Things" from the Sound of Music.

Kisses from babies and freshly picked peaches
Lime margharitas served on white sand beaches
Winning the lotto and hot summer flings
These are a few of my favorite things...

Tabloids and cheesecakes and cheese sauce with noodles
Spa days and snow days and dogs that aren't poodles
Generous favours attached with no strings
These are a few of my favorite things...

Christmas and birthdays and lovers, not fighters
Old scales that say you weigh 7 pounds lighter
Gift cards for shopping and new diamond rings
These are a few of my favorite things

When the car stalls, when the bills come, when I'm feeling sad,
I simply remember my favorite things, and then I don't feel
sooooooo baaaaaaaaaad!

Stay in Bed Mom

On "Arrested Development", one of the greatest TV shows of all time, the hateful mother attempted to insult her daughter by calling her a "Stay in Bed Mom". Funny... but there is no such thing- at least when you have a newborn or toddler. Sleep has changed from something that was once there for the taking, into a brief gift that your child may or may not grant you at their whim. Even my dreams have taken on a faster pace- they must also sense that their time is limited...
But having a 14 month old daughter makes waking up a lot more exciting and rewarding- my first thought is always of her. That's another gift she's given me- selflessness. Thank you, monkey.

Hmmmm, what's a blog?

I'm not quite sure that my life actually warrants a blog, but
I'll try to make this as blogtastic as possible....
